The Sea

A favourite place in Northumberland is the walk from Bamburgh Castle to
Budle Bay at sunset. It's at its most peaceful at that time of day, with
an ever-changing seascape. Watch the spray on the rocks and feel the sand
between your toes!

I love the sea and feel very fortunate to live close to the Coast. I find
Warkworth beach so enthralling and exciting as it is different every day
according to the weather. The calm day with no wind and the sea that laps
gently onto the beach - so peaceful and tranquil. There are so many different
moods - a windy day when the waves are crashing onto the sand - a gentle
breeze with the yachts gleaming in the sunshine. Every day the clouds
in the sky are quite poetic - the sand dunes look so grand and give the
beautiful long beach such character and dignity. There are friendly people
who walk their dogs, the sound of galloping horses and the happy scenes
of children making sand castles. Such diversity - what more could one
ask for? It is easy to reach the Warkworth Beach and the "Topsy Turvey"
Restaurant provides an excellent meal and drink.

Druridge Bay is great: it is on the coast, north of Cresswell. You can
walk along the beach or swim in the sea. An old war shelter in the dunes
is a brilliant place to play. It can be enjoyed in any weather; it's great
when it's sunny, obviously! We went there once when there was a thunderstorm
at sea - I dug a hole in the sand and sheltered under an umbrella. We
have a photograph of this.

One of my favourite places in Northumberland is Low-Newton-by-the-Sea.
The beach here is really beautiful, especially in the winter when the
sea is really wild and rough. "The Ship" is a really welcoming
pub; open all year round and serving gorgeous food. I have special memories
of my friend's 18th birthday party here, where we had a meal and danced
under the stars at midnight!
